Fallowfield, Jonathon | Nameless | Tailboard | Half Plate

TAILBOARD FIELD CAMERA. 1870 to 1880. This camera is marked with Fallowfield's Lambeth address, where he had premises from 1856 to 1888, so it obviously falls between these two dates. The focusing style, by lens adjustment, the lack of rack focusing and the square canvas bellows would indicate a date probably in the 1860s - 70s. But it is a dry plate camera, putting it most likely after 1870 when dry plates were first experimentally available, up to 1878, when they became a practical proposition; therefore I date it to 1870-1880. QED, but I am open to further and better information.
