Gandolfi, Louis and Sons | Unnamed | Tailboard | Half Plate
TAILBOARD FIELD CAMERA. DATE UNKNOWN. Louis Gandolfi set up as a camera maker in 1885, after 5 years with Lejeune-Perkins and Co. The business he founded is still in operation, thus making Gandolfi the oldest continuous camera making firm in Britain. Their cameras are sought after and greatly valued by both photographers and camera collectors, and no collection of British cameras should be without an example of their work. Because they did not change successful designs over periods of many years, dating is difficult. This camera has 'L. Gandolfi, Maker, London' stamped into the woodwork. It has the feel of an early one.
