Lawley, Walter | No model name | English | Half Plate

FIELD CAMERA. 1887. This camera has no makers' plate, but the lens is engraved 'Walter Lawley, Optician, 78 Farringdon St. E.C., and 8, Coventry St., London, W. No.412'. I have catalogued it as a Lawley camera, but I am not staking my reputation on it; I have said elsewhere that lenses and cameras can be switched. The lens LOOKS original, though.

W. Lawley is noted by Channing and Dunn as having been definitely in existence from 1865, but advertising as 'W. Lawley & Sons' between 1877 and 1887, when they went back to being W. Lawley. Ceased trading about 1897.
