Sheffield Photo Co. | Field Camera | Other | Half Plate

FIELD CAMERA. 1895. Founded in 1892, by Frank Mottershaw, (well-known as a pioneer of early movies), the Sheffield Photo Co. continued to trade in Sheffield well into the late 20th. Century. They made their own cameras at 95 Norfolk Street, throughout the 1890s, with a retail shop just round the corner at 6 Norfolk Row. This camera carries the label for the works at 95 Norfolk Street. An associate of Mottershaw's, Henry Jasper Redfern, (qv), had his studio and works at 104-106, Norfolk Street. The front of the camera is held up on keyhole slots, with just a single strut on the camera's right side.
