Griffiths Camera Company Ltd, The | Enlarging Camera | Other | Quarter Plate

ENLARGING CAMERA. 1903. From 1891 to 1901, the company name was Walter Griffiths & Co. Ltd. (qv). After some insolvency difficulties in 1901, by 1903 they had become The Griffiths Camera Co. Ltd., (the name on this camera), but were still at the same address, Highgate Square, Mosely Road, Birmingham. The fairly primitively constructed camera can be used only when attached to its case, the sliding top of which forms an integral part of the focusing system. It is a good idea on paper, but bulky and pretty difficult to use in practice. Much more elegant systems existed, (e.g. London Stereoscopic Co.'s copying camera, Cat. No. 0163) but I suppose Griffiths' prices were right for his market.
