Farrow, Ebenezer H. | Improved Pattern Tailboard | Tailboard | Half Plate

IMPROVED PATTERN TAILBOARD. 1892. A very rare "Improved Pattern" tailboard camera, labelled "Ebenezer H. Farrow, Photographic Apparatus Manufr., 474, Hornsey Road, London, N.", it can be accurately dated to 1892/3, the only year when Farrow was at this address. A "Shutter Bottom" camera, it was held rigid by a sliding panel in the base when unfolded. It has beautiful small dovetail jointed corners, which by this date, together with the shutter bottom, were being abandoned by most makers, in favour of machine-made comb joints and less labour-intensive methods of strutting the camera for rigidity.
