Margery. W | Unnamed | Other | Quarter Plate

BLOCK FORM DOUBLE DARK SLIDE | 1880s: This all-mahogany early block-form Double Dark Slide is the only example of W.Margery's work that I have been able to find. It is a dedicated slide, built to a one-off design and evidently made to fit a particular camera, which I do not have. It is notable, in that the sliding leaves of the dark slide are made of very thin and fragile mahogany sheet, and it has to be said this has not proved very suitable for the purpose; some other makers of this type of slide, e.g. Thornton-Pickard and Kodak, used either aluminium or a composition substance for this application. No further information about W. Margery is available at this time.
