Sands & Hunter | Exhibition Camera | Tailboard | Quarter Plate

1883?: This was another poor orphan that I bought for spare parts, but I found I hadn't the heart to dismantle and scrap it. Under the muck, the Spanish mahogany was quite beautiful, and it is hand-dovetail jointed throughout, so out of appreciation for the workmanship, I have cleaned up and repaired what I could. It is still a lame duck, and has been extensively modified, with a "Meagher style" side support removed, but this wasn't its time to die, and it now has its place in this collection, instead of the tip. Manufactured, as well as retailed by the firm, sometime between 1883 and 1893, while they were still labelling their products "Sands & Hunter".
