Scott, C.E | Scott's Patent Camera | Other | Whole Plate

1887: Labelled "Scott's Patent, No.12389" on the lens panel, this camera also carries, on the body, the label "Made by J.L.Lane & Sons, London, for J.T.Chapman, Albert Square, Manchester." The patentee, C.E.Scott, who made cameras largely for others to retail, did actually make, advertise and retail Scott's Patent Camera himself, in Manchester, and the camera also figures in J.T.Chapman's 1888 catalogue, most likely made for him by Scott. (Channing & Dunn, p.113). The J.L.Lane connection is not clearly understood. (See also Lane & Sons, J L.) Later information is that the patent was actually in the name of T.Scott; C E Scott may have been his predecessor in the business. (See also Lejeune and Perken.).
