Smith, W A C | The Invincible | Other | Half Plate

FIELD CAMERA | 1896 A Glasgow firm, established in 1894 at 53, Dundas Street, later at 51 as well; this camera carries both addresses. William first began to call himself a "Photographic Instrument Maker" in 1897, but The Invincible was advertised from 1896/7 as their top of the range camera. They used the Dundas Street address up to 1909, concurrently with an address at 236, Argyle Street which they continued to use up to 1925. The Invincible is a fairly conventional double extension half plate camera, but of very high quality construction, in what appears to be teak wood.
